Dragon Small Z may be ending

I got some news. Toei Animation is "refreshing" the Dragon Ball Z series, and it will start airing April 5, 2009. This refresh will be in HD 16:9, and the show will be reduced to 100 episodes. It is being assumed by us fans that they are going to bring it down from 291 episodes to 100 by removing all the filler. Due to it being similar to my project, I'll have to slow down on Dragon Small Z so I won't do the work that Toei is going to do anyways. Dragon Small Z would have consisted of 25 to 35 episodes. DBZ Refresh Article

I can do one of three things with Dragon Small Z and all of these outcomes are of waiting until the DBZ refresh comes out. The first outcome is that the DBZ refresh is full of horrible special effects and still untrue to the manga, and I'll step in and correct these mistakes, and perhaps make the series a third of the size. The second outcome is that the refresh is amazing, and I still can reduce the show to a third of the "refresh" size. The third thing to do with Dragon Small Z is to no longer make episodes, but make video edits, GIFs, and the such. The time line is below.

I might continue making episodes until April just so I can finish with the Vegeta saga. If I ever stop with Dragon Small Z I'll release ALL the project files online so that anyone can pick it up.

February to April: I'll continue making video edits and GIFs, and perhaps still continue making episodes until the Vegeta saga is done.

April to May: I'll watch the DBZ refresh to see wether it is of quality or not.

May and on: I'll wait until the English release of the DBZ refresh to do work on. I'll still continue video edits and GIFs, so please make requests at one of the following IM services at the top of the page.

To make this Friday the 13th brighter, I made two video edits of Freeza killing Cargo as in the manga, rather than Dodoria killing Cargo as shown on TV. Both videos are the same after Cargo dies.

No episode today, but I made GIFs and a video

The GIFs can be viewed here: Dragon Ball Z GIFs

DSZ Extra Video: Raditz Surprise

The video clip is just an extra I made while making Dragon Small Z. It has nothing to do with the actual DSZ project and is something I do on the side.

The GIFs I made are from the episodes that are in the first episode of Dragon Small Z. I take requests for GIFs, so please IM me.

Dragon Small Z Episode 01

The first episode of Dragon Small Z, a project of removing all the unnecessary scenes of DBZ. This episode includes scenes from the first eight episodes of Dragon Ball Z. The second half of episode eight will be part of episode two of DSZ. Sorry it took so long to upload; my Blip.TV account got deleted. See my previous blog entry for more information. Please IM me with feedback.

Dragon Small Z Explained

Remember when you watched DBZ back in the day? Where minutes of the episode were of powering up and character commentary? I decided to start a project to remove all of these scenes and still retain the quality. I called this project Dragon Small Z. I originally posted tests online in October 2006 intending to create the episodes and start releasing them around March 2007. But that never happened. The source for these episodes were low quality and had inconsistent voices. Not only that my video editing skills back then were sloppy, and I didn't put much effort into it.

In September 2008 I picked up the project again. This time around I made it so the episodes had better flow, and that the sound won't jump because I adjust the volume in between scenes. The music will mainly be Funimation's because that is how most of us remember it, but at different parts in the episode it may switch to the Japanese music to make it less jumpy. The source for these are the Funimation remastered DVDs since it has everything I wanted except for the cropped wide screen, but it isn't too bad.

These DSZ episodes will be around 20 minutes long, just like an episode of DBZ. To give you an idea of how much is cut out, the first episode of DBZ was cut down to 48 seconds, and the second episode was cut down to 2 minutes and 23 seconds. What I'll do then is combine these cut down episodes until they are 20 minutes total. Filler episodes won't be included with the DSZ episodes, but they'll be shortened for a compilation later. I'll be releasing the DSZ episodes in three main arcs: Freeza, Cell, and Buu. I will hopefully release one episode every week until the end of an arc, and then I will releases filler compilations and the such. That is if everything goes right. The Dragon Small Z trailer will be released soon.
